Why are cheese dairies called fruitières?

In cheese factory we find, the fruit of the farmers' labor who pool their milk production, the work of the cheesemaker who transforms the milk into cheese, and that of the refiner in his cellars who patiently works each wheel to enhance its aromas. This is why the name fruitière is used.

The fruit shop, where producers collect their milk to make it into Comté, is a cooperative village organization born 8 centuries ago! The values of solidarity and sharing are the soul of this cheese.
