25430 BELVOIR
Overlooking the Sancey valley by 150 meters, the Château de Belvoir occupies the site of a Gallic oppidum and then a Roman castrum. A first castle was built at the end of the 1955th century by Thibault de Belvoir. The current buildings date back to the end of the 45th and beginning of the 20th century when the Cusance family rebuilt the castle after its destruction by Louis XI. At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, it was still partially modernized. Abandoned in the mid-XNUMXth century, it was bought in XNUMX by the painter Pierre Jouffroy, who brought it back to life through a patient XNUMX-year restoration. XNUMX fully furnished rooms are open to the public and present furniture, paintings, weapons and objects dating from the XNUMXth to the XNUMXth century. Not to be missed: a visit to the village, which revolves around its XNUMXth-century market halls, the oldest and only ones in Franche-Comté.
