Starting in the heart of Maîche, the hike gradually takes us away from the urbanization to begin an immersion in nature. The arrival at Faux Verger promises a 360° view and if the weather is clear then you will have views of the Vosges and the Bernese Alps. Everything is done to settle in and picnic; it's indeed the ideal time to take a break. The hardest part is over in terms of elevation gain and half of the kilometers remain. The return is made through the forest.
Tips : there is a small loop, in walking mode, of 1,5 km which provides access to the Faux Verger.
Medium difficulty circuit, yellow and blue markings.
In the Dessoubre Valley, near the village of Orgeans-Blanchefontaine, a family hiking trail allows you to discover the Waroly valley. This hike is easy, and for the most imaginative, it promises an immersion in a magical world where elves are not far away. Streams, tufa rocks, and numerous waterfalls mark the route. A haven of tranquility and freshness, you will be immersed throughout the trail in a wild, preserved, and mysterious atmosphere, where mountain dwellers once performed their Celtic rituals... You will be there, nice and cool, that's for sure, you will be able to approach the Dessoubre, and who knows, observe a fly fisherman in silence.
For the motivated If you are thirsty for discovery, don't hesitate to discover the Waroly caves which are very close by.
Accessible circuit, yellow and blue markings.
Ahah! Here they are, these famous “Ladders of Death”… You’re immediately in the swing of things, since the hike begins by climbing these stairs, certainly a little steep, but safer than ladders… The advantage is that you will be very quickly rewarded for your efforts. Arriving above the ladders, the view of Death Valley, contrary to its name, is very pretty. But there is still a long way to go to complete this loop. Head into the forest and the descent to continue this very pleasant route. The view at the Charbonnière du Haut is less well-known but it is very nice. You finish the hike along the banks of the Doubs, with these cliffs in the background, it is once again very pretty and pleasant.
The hike is of average difficulty, due to the ladders, but remains quite accessible if you are not afraid of heights...
Yellow and blue markings.
Info : Access to the car park is via the hairpin bend at the Fournet-Blancheroche exit towards Switzerland. This narrow road is not recommended for motorhomes.
This hike combines heritage and nature. At the beginning of your journey, you can discover two castles! That's already quite a lot, as well as the church. A little higher up, in the Saint-Michel hillside, you'll pass the Chapel of the Angels. After this heritage, it's time for nature! Heading towards Cernay l'Eglise, you'll cross the arboretum before reaching Mont Miroir. Multiple viewpoints over the town, the Dessoubre valley, neighboring Switzerland, and the forest will enhance the walk. Towards the end of the hike, you'll even feel like you've changed regions! No more fir trees but pines, which are less common in our region. A hot day and you'll think you're in the south!
Easy circuit, accessible with children. Yellow and blue markings.
