A varied landscape and a healthy natural environment

The Pays Horloger consists of five areas characterized by their relief and topography. The succession of valleys (Doubs, Dessoubre and Morteau) and plateaux (Maîche-Le Russey, Belleherbe) furnishes a great variety of landscapes and original surroundings and encourages many activities in all seasons.

Wide landscapes, fresh air, a well preserved multi-coloured natural environment : many ingredients for the well-being of man are present in this human-sized region giving it richess, charm and appeal. Peaceful prairies, wild currents, snowfields, paths hidden under the firs and 360° views to be admired from a great many belvederes offer an authentic and sincere permanent spectacle.

On foot, by bicycle, on horseback or on skis, the walks and hikes possible here will not fail to offer you a change of scenery.

The great variety of green landscapes, the alternation of wooded ridges and open plateaux, of peaceful pastures, ponds and springs, of mountains and valleys and colours changing with the seasons encourage the discovery of the different beauty spots on foot,by canoe, on horseback, on mountain bikes or on skis for that matter, after the first snow has fallen.

To take full advantage of this potential many paths are waymarked, among which the GR5, and tracks for cross-country skiing packed down most notably the "Grande Traversée du Jura", the famous GTJ.Numerous facilities favour a great variety of sports and other leisure activities.

It is, for example, possible to discover the Doubs waterfall in a carriage drawn by franccomtois horses and to return by boat to fully appreciate the scenery of cliffs and meanders,to climb up the famous "Echelles de la mort" (Death ladders) or to go fly-fishing in the Doubs or the Dessoubre Rivers. In this land of "savoirfaire" and "savoirvivre" one has but to choose an itinerary.
